Following a spate of burglaries across Co Monaghan, Gardaí are encouraging locals to "lock up and light up." Gardaí are currently investigating a number of burglaries across the Northern Sound region. As a result, Gardaí have launched a campaign highlighting the importance of lighting up your home and making it look occupied when out and about.
As the darker evenings loom, locals are advised to consider using timer switchers and to always use alarm devices even when you are at home. Speaking to Northern Sound, Garda Tracy Donaghy outlined what locals should do to prevent further crime.
"An Garda Síochána are currently investigating a number burglaries," explained Garda Donaghy. "We are coming into that time of year now with darker evenings and as part of our lock up and light up campaign we want to remind locals of the importance of lighting up your home. Store keys safely away from windows and letter boxes and do not keep large amounts of cash in your home. More burglary prevention advice can be found online at www.garda.ie and if you have any particular concerns please contact your local Garda station."
