Gardaí are continuing to carry out a murder investigation following the death of a woman near Ballyconnell. She and another man in his 60s were attacked at a house outside Kilnavart on Saturday night. A fire was also started at the house, while a man in his 30s was arrested at a local takeaway outlet in Ballyconnell shortly afterwards.
The man who was injured in the "serious incident" was taken to Cavan General Hospital where his condition remains "serious but stable". Gardaí are appealing for anyone who travelled in the area of KIlnavart between 8:30 and 9:30pm on Saturday night to come forward if they have information or dash cam footage.
Gardaí, who searched an area close to where the man was arrested, are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident. Local councillor John Paul Feeley says it’s a very sad time for all involved and he’s thinking of them at this very difficult time.
