Gardaí across Cavan and Monaghan are reminding locals to be "vigilant" when it comes to scammers. The warning was issued after Gardaí in Carrickmacross received a report yesterday from an elderly person who got a telephone call from an individual purporting to be from a well-known phone company.
According to Gardaí, the caller claimed that a refund was due because of bad signal in the area. As a result, the victim innocently handed over debit card details to receive the refund which allowed the fraudster to gain access to the victims account details and funds.
Gardaí are reminding people of all ages to never give any personal information out to anyone over the phone or click on links received in unsolicited texts or emails and to always be alert for scammers.
