Gardaí in Cavan have received a number of reports of cold callers calling to elderly people in rural areas of the county in recent days.
According to Gardaí, the same car was involved and the occupants used different reasons for calling such as offering cleaning services.
As a result, local Gardaí have advised members of the public to be mindful if they have elderly relations or friends living alone in rural areas.
People are advised to never engage or employ cold callers and to never leave strangers unsupervised at the door or in the house.
If someone does call in such circumstances, people are advised to report the matter immediately to their local Garda Station.
In a warning to the public, local Gardaí also highlighted the importance of always asking for identification and to take steps to verify it by contacting the company or organisation that the caller purports to be from.
In addition to this, Gardaí advised locals to never keep cash at home, adding that genuine tradespeople will not be offended by enquiries Gardaí make on receiving a report of cold callers.
