Garda Lisa Stephens of Bailieboro Garda Station is encouraging all e-scooter users to adhere to the rules of the road.

Local Gardaí have issued a warning in relation to the use of e-scooters. According to Garda Lisa Stephens of Bailieboro Garda Station, new legislation relating to the use of e-scooters was introduced back in 2003. The legislation states that the use of an e-scooter is not permitted by any person under the age of 16. Garda Stephen's highlighted that the "rule of the road" also applies to e-scooter users as do lighting regulations.

People cannot carry passengers, use an e-scooter with a seat or use it on footpaths, as it is an "offence" to do so. Speaking to Northern Sound, Garda Stephen's highlighted the importance of staying safe. "We are just over two months away from Christmas and we want everyone who uses the roads to remain safe," Garda Stephen's explained. "We want you to play your part. Leave down your mobile device, wear your seat belt and above all slow down."
