Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Cavan Town that’s left a man fighting for his life.
The incident occurred on St. Valentine’s night just before 12 a.m.
An area of the Main Street outside a public house in the town remained sealed off yesterday throughout the day.
A man in his 20's was taken to Cavan General Hospital, but was transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
His condition is being described as serious, while no other injuries were reported.
A 17-year-old has since been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the Louth/Cavan/Monaghan Division.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Main Street area of Cavan Town between 11 p.m. and midnight on Friday into Saturday morning and who may have information or camera footage relating to the serious assault to contact them.
