Gardaí are investigating two separate incidents of attempted burglary which occurred last Friday In County Cavan and North Meath.
In both incidents a man was impersonating a member of An Garda Síochána.
The first incident occurred at approximately 11.45 on Friday morning last in Virginia, Co. Cavan.
A lone male called to the home of an elderly person and impersonated a Garda. He showed some form of makeshift Garda I.D. and produced a sum of money and enquired did the elderly person own this money.
His intention was to find out where this person kept cash.
Thankfully the injured party in question was wise to this scam and closed the front door.
The male left the area in what is being described as a blue/navy saloon type car,
The second incident occurred at Carnaross, Kells, Co. Meath also on the same morning with matching details of the Virginia incident.
The elderly lady was suspicious of the caller and activated a panic alarm. The male then immediately left the area.
As investigations continue local Gardai are asking people to be vigilant and never take coldcallers to your home at face value. Always check their identity even if it means ringing the local garda station.
