Over the past month Gardaí in Co Monaghan have seen a number of incidents involving the theft of fuel. Whether domestic or commercial, above ground oil tanks and mobile fuel bowsers are most at risk of fuel theft. An Garda Síochána recommends the installation of alarms and anti-siphoning devices which can help to prevent and disrupt fuel thieves. CCTV and security lighting, accompanied by clear signage, can also be effective deterrents.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Garda Tracey Donaghy of Carrickmacross Garda station has this advice for locals; "Fuel tanks should be as visible as possible, remote fuel tanks are more at risk. Access gates should be closed and locked when not in use. More crime prevention information is available at www.garda.ie"
