Gardaí deployed "force options" 958 times last year, with 3% of these incidents occurring in the Northern Sound region.
"Force options" include the use of pepper spray, tasers, and firearms.
These figures were provided by Justice Minister Helen McEntee, on foot of a written Dáil question from Social Democrats co-leader, Catherine Murphy.
The Cavan/Monaghan Garda Division accounted for 3% of the 958 times "force options" were used by gardaí last year, down from 4% in 2019.
Nationwide, pepper spray was used 907 times last year, down from 969 in 2019.
However, firearms were used 17 times in 2020, a more than five-fold increase on the year previous, when firearms were discharged three times.
This figure includes the use of the non-lethal 40mm launcher, which is used by the Armed Support Units.
