Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body of a man yesterday in Co Monaghan.
The discovery was made yesterday morning on the grounds of a hotel just outside Carrickmacross.
It’s understood the 25-year-old was an asylum seeker from Nigeria who had just arrived in Ireland recently.
He was found on the grounds near the entrance of the M Hotel, formerly known as Treacys Hotel, with suspicious injuries to his head.
Gardaí were trying to establish if he was assaulted or may have fallen or otherwise sustained his injuries accidentally.
A post-mortem on the man’s body which is due to take place today will determine whether the man had been the victim of foul play.
The hotel, which being used as a direct provision centre for asylum seekers, is situated 5km outside Carrickmacross. It's understood it provides 35 rooms for up to 124 asylum seekers.
