The Department of Justice says Gardai have been carrying out 'extensive' enquiries into the disappearance of a Cavan woman in Portugal.
The family of Jean Tighe are calling on Irish investigators to have a greater input with the Portuguese authorities.
Munterconnaught native Jean Tighe was reported missing by friends she was staying in a hostel with in July 2020, however it was only when she didn't return to Ireland at Christmas that her family was informed of her disappearance.
Her sister Leona told The Wider View this week that the family have been forced to travel abroad themselves to conduct enquires because of a lack of action on the ground.
They're calling on An Garda Siochana to appoint senior members to take over the case.
In a statement to Northern Sound, a Department of Justice spokesperson said Garda have carried out 'an extensive range' of enquiries in Ireland to gather information for Portuguese authorities.
It added that the family has been advised to maintain direct contact with police in Portugal and that Gardai are providing ongoing Family Liaison Support.
Gardai also confirmed that any information that comes to their attention has been forwarded to Portugal through Interpol.
While the Department of Foreign Affairs said its aware of the case and has been providing consular assistance.
