A local Garda representative has warned homeowners across Cavan of the dangers presented by cold and bogus callers. Local Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Mick Duffy, is encouraging people, particularly those who are elderly and vulnerable, to be mindful when answering their door.
Sergeant Duffy says it is "vital" to ensure that back doors are locked as this deters criminals from entering houses while occupiers are distracted. He also pointed to the importance of not making a purchase or accepting work from bogus callers.
Sergeant Duffy added that people do not have to answer calls to their door unless they are the subject of a Garda warrant.
