A sense of shock has emerged from the community of Blacklion after the body of man was discovered yesterday morning.
52-year-old Denis Neary was found unresponsive with serious injuries at a home in Blacklion at around a quarter past nine.
Despite medical intervention he was later pronounced dead by paramedics after suffering serious head injuries. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr John Paul Feeley, revealed that the deceased was not a native to the area and had moved only in recent times.
Cllr Feeley added that Gardai have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries throughout this morning, while they've also been searching bins, hedges and alleyways. He is appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, a man in his 30s was later arrested on suspicion of murder. He is still being held at Castlerea Garda Station in Roscommon this morning where he can be detained for up to 24 hours.
