The Garda Commissioner says there are plans in place for dealing with Brexit.
Drew Harris made the comments at a meeting of Cavan's Joint Policing Committee recently.
He said Gardaí have been liaising with the PSNI in the North and plans have been drawn up for dealing with policing along the border.
However the Commissioner said they will have to wait for political developments to see what type of agreement, if any, is in place for the end of the transition period on December 31st.
The meeting heard concerns of cross border criminality, with calls for an increased Garda presence in the region.
Commissioner Harris said the Armed Support Unit in Cavan will be placed on a permanent footing shortly and the ASUs in Cavan, Ballyshannon and Dundalk will "grow substantially" in the coming years.
