A new building for Gaelscoil Eois in Clones has been given the green light after works were temporarily paused by the Department of Education. Last month, the Department announced that 58 building projects across the country were to be postponed due to financial pressures, including the local primary school.
Despite this, Minister for Education, Norma Foley today confirmed that an agreement had been secured that would guarantee the rollout of the building programme.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Sinn Fein's Pat Treanor revealed that members of the local school community were "delighted" with today's announcement.
Despite frustrations after funding was paused, Cllr Treanor believes today's announcement is a "step in the right direction" in terms of future-proofing Gaelscoil Eois in Clones. Something which he says has been at the heart of the locality for almost 30 years.
In that time, Cllr Treanor revealed that the local Gaelscoil has had to move to a number of premises just to keep the school afloat. He added that the "great results" and "success" of pupils at the local school has contributed to a "great upsurge" in the use of the Irish language:
