Further information has been requested from Aldi before Cavan County Council will make a decision on its planned new supermarket in Cootehill.
The German retailer had applied for permission for the new outlet on the Station road.
Aldi has applied for planning permission for the 1,300 square metre supermarket.
25 new jobs will be created if it's given planning permission.
Cavan County Council was due to make a decision on the project yesterday but it has requested further information on aspects of it.
Files on the Council's planning website show one submission on the plans has been made.
It was submitted on behalf of retail group RGDATA which represents independent family grocers.
Among the issues raised in its submission it says there is a high level of commercial vacancy in Cootehill and the redevelopment of one of those sites should be incorporated into the plans.
It says the development is considered contrary to the Cavan Retail Strategy, which prioritises the reuse of vacant buildings.
