Local Fianna Fáil TD Deputy Brendan Smith has welcomed the announcement by Minister Darragh O'Brien and Minister Charlie McConalogue of a further extension of the slurry spreading.
The extension period has been extended by a further seven days up to October 14th.
Todays announcement follows on from September 21st where the Minister for Agriculture announced a brief extension until the 8th of October but since then, frequent torrential rain has made slurry spreading impossible.
The local td said very poor weather conditions during the summer and also throughout September severely impacted on the ability of farmers and contractors to get slurry applied on land.
The extension granted is absolutely essential according to Deputy Smith and will enable farmers to carry out this important work in a prudent manner
