The PUP will be "reduced on a taperer basis over a six-month period".

There's been a further drop in the number of people claiming the Pandemic Unemployment payment.

Around 143,000 people nationwide received the payment this week, a reduction of almost 6,000 on the week previous.

The process of "reducing the PUP to align it with the standard jobseekers payments" will also begin next week.

The Government says the PUP will be gradually reduced on a tapered basis over a six-month period until February 2022, to align it with the standard jobseekers payments.

Full-time students for the upcoming academic year will receive their final payment on September 7th, and the PUP will be cut by €50 from September 14th.
