Requiem mass for Steve Duggan takes place today at 11 o'clock in St. Mary's Church, Ballyhaise.

The funeral of former Cavan footballer and owner of the Cavan Sports Centre Ballroom, Steve Duggan, takes place in Ballyhaise today.

Mr Duggan, who was in his 70s, died suddenly in Miami last month. Steve will be remembered by many Cavan ex-pats to New York as the friendly face from home serving pints in Paddy Reilly's, the famous music bar he owned on 2nd Avenue. People at home will remember him as the sure-footed, fast-paced Cavan Gael and Ballyhaise club man who won two Ulster Championship titles with the Breffni County and was also selected to play for Ulster in 1970 and 1971. Other people of a certain age, will have fond memories of the Sports Centre Ballroom where Steve was known for booking top names of the era like Dickie
Rock and Joe Dolan to play Cavan. Requiem mass for Steve Duggan takes place today at 11 o'clock in St. Mary's Church, Ballyhaise with interment afterwards in St Patrick's Cemetery, Castletara.

Ray Carolan ran the Sports Club with Steve back in the day and says he was a big personality on and off the pitch:
