The funeral mass will take place today of Co Monaghan native, Archbishop Noel Treanor. Archbishop Noel Treanor died suddenly at the age of 73 in Brussels on August 11th.
The Tyholland native and Emeritus Bishop of Down and Connor was the current Apostolic Nuncio to the European Union following his appointment by Pope Francis to the role in 2022.
He was born on Christmas Day in 1950 in Monaghan town and completed his early education locally. He pursued his third level education at Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth and in Rome. He was ordained a priest in 1976 for service in the diocese of Clogher in Saint Macartan’s Cathedral, Co Monaghan. His funeral mass will take place in St Peter’s Cathedral, Belfast today at twelve noon, followed by the interment in the Chapel of the Resurrection of the Cathedral.
