The Funeral Mass of a Carrickmacross teenager will take place later today.
14-year-old Aoibhe Byrne was pronounced dead at the scene, after Gardaí responded to an incident in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan on Wednesday 27th April 2022 shortly after 7pm.
The late Aoibhe Byrne's funeral cortège will leave her home today, driving to St. Peter & St Paul's Church, lower Magheracloone for Funeral Mass at 11:30am followed by burial in the adjoining new Cemetery.
Aoihe was known to many for her sporting talents, having played GAA for Magheracloone Ladies, soccer for Carrickmacross Rovers, basketball for the Carrick Cruisers and handball for the Kingscourt Handball Club.
A pupil at Coláiste Dún An Rí in Kingscourt, Co Cavan, the local school has described Aoibhe as a "wonderful lady" and an "excellent student" who made a significant contribution to many sports teams within the school.
Aoibhe was also a supporter of Celtic FC.
In response to her death, Celtic fans are planning on paying tribute to the late Carrickmacross teenager during today's game against Glasgow-rivals Rangers at 12 noon.
A round of applause is to be led by Celtic supporters on the 14th minute, in memory of the late 14-year-old.
