Funeral Arrangements for the late Archbishop Noël Treanor has been announced.
The Monaghan native and Emeritus Bishop of Down and Connor passed away on Sunday at the age of 73. Archbishop Treanor was the current Apostolic Nuncio to the European Union following his appointment by Pope Francis to the role in 2022.
The Tyholland native returned from Rome after further studies and served in Monaghan, Rackwallace and Enniskillen for a time. The Archbishop served in serval high profile roles through his life including the appointment of Bishop of Down and Connor in 2008.
Archbishop Noel’s remains will depart Dublin Airport on Saturday the 17th August at approximately 12.45pm to travel via M1, N2, R213 and N12 through Tyholland. Rejoining the N2 at Coolshannagh Roundabout passing Corracrin and onward to Ballygawley roundabout joining the M1 to Belfast.
Archbishop Noel’s remains will repose on Sunday 18th August for family only until arrival at St.Peters Cathedral, Belfast, BT12 4BU for liturgy of reception and repossal at 6pm. All welcome. Monday 19th August, St Peter’s Cathedral will remain open until 8pm for people to pay their respects to Archbishop Noel.
Requiem Mass will take place in St Peter’s Cathedral on Tuesday 20th August at 12 Noon followed by the interment in the Chapel of the Resurrection of the Cathedral.
