The Funeral arrangements for former Bishop of Clogher, Liam MacDaid, who died suddenly while on holiday in France on the 15th of August have been announced this evening. Bishop Liam's body will arrive at St McCartan's Cathedral in Monaghan, this Friday at 3pm.
Following the Liturgy of Reception, the Bishop's remains will repose at the Cathedral until conclusion of Night Prayer of the Church which will commence at 9.45pm. This will afford the people of the diocese an opportunity to pay their respects to the late Bishop McDaid.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday the 26 of August at 12 noon and this will be followed by burial in the Cathedral grounds. Meanwhile, paying tribute to Bishop MacDaid, Bishop Denis Nulty of Kildare & Leighlin, and chair of the Bishops' Council for Marriage and the Family, highlighted how the late Bishop served from 2013 to 2016 as chair of the Council.
He pointed out that it was with "great sadness" that he learned of Bishop MacDaid's death and highlighted his involvement in numerous initiatives that raised the profile of the family. "One event I particularly recall was a conference hosted by the Council for Marriage & Family in Clonliffe College in Dublin, where Bishop Liam very successfully introduced drama to act out contemporary family situations," continued the Bishop. "It showed the vision and ability of Bishop Liam."
