The teenager, who has been remembered as a “loved and cherished son”, passed away around 24 hours after he was injured in a collision close to his Killeavy home.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Some incidents involved someone wearing a balaclava while entering the church carrying a coffin, and floral arrangements of alcohol, screwdrivers and cars.

The soccer coach leaves behind his wife, Eilish, their five young children and a wide family circle.

Joe Connolly was very well known from his career as a psychiatric nurse at St Davnet's Hospital and his work with Houston Scott Maxwell Funeral Directors.

Their funeral will take place in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Swinford, today at 12 noon.

It marked the second work related fatality in Co Cavan in the last week.
