Plans to develop the Greenway from Dromod in Co Leitrim to Belturbet in Co Cavan have stepped up a notch this week. The focus for now will be on the section from Cavan town to Butler's Bridge on to Redhills and into Clones linking up with the Ulster Canal via Castle Saunderson.
That's according to Director of Services at Cavan County Council, Paddy Connaughton, who told a recent meeting of local authority members that this 40km of Greenway had gotten the go ahead from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and €20m in funding was secured.
He told those gathered that the route of this particular greenway and its location would see it incorporated into the Ulster Canal development. Mr Connaughton pointed to the tourism potential and economic benefits the latest Greenway plan will bring to Co Cavan.
He added that he is currently awaiting the report on the route between Belturbet and Ballyconnell which is also set to be developed in the future.
