Funding of more than €31,000 has been announced for local peatlands related projects.
The Peatlands Community Engagement Scheme encourages local communities and groups to promote and implement peatland conservation and restoration projects.
Close to €24,000 is headed to St Kilian's Heritage Trust in Co. Cavan to further develop awareness and appreciation of the conservation of Killyconny Bog's Special Area of Conservation.
The funding will be utilised to make St. Kilian's Heritage Centre an all year round facility for ongoing education and engagement with schools and the community.
Elsewhere, €7,500 will go to the River Blackwater Catchment Trust in Co. Monaghan to support a project to remove 60 hectares of self-seeding conifers and invasive species.
The scheme is managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, a division of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, and sees 16 groups share funding of over €160,000.
