A Monaghan Senator is calling for additional funding to help alleviate serious flooding concerns in Donaghmoyne. Senator Robbie Gallagher raised the matter this week in the Seanad.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator Gallagher said that the village suffers from "substantial flooding" when heavy rain occurs, affecting local roads, homes and schools.
As a result, Senator Gallagher believes something "must be done" and has called on potential funding avenues to be explored.
Senator Gallagher added that the existing network is "not sufficient" to cater for the volume of water and that additional funding will be required in order to upgrade the infrastructure.
"There are two potential funding avenues available to Monaghan County Council," explained Senator Gallagher. "One is through the OPW, and I'm also in contact with the Department of Transport because they have what is called a climate adaption and resilience fund to tackle flooding issues in different areas of the country, so that's two potential areas there to be explored and I'll keep the pressure on in the hope of finding a solution to this problem."
