Funding for lighting along the road from Ballyconnell to the Slieve Russell Hotel was approved by Cavan County Council this morning. Cllr Peter McVitty has been campaigning for some time now to get the green light on the project.
He said the lighting is necessary to improve safety along the route. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr McVitty, highlighted how a new footpath has just been completed in the area.
And, he appealed to those using scooters to exercise caution at all times. "I know for a fact that the footpath from Ballyconnell out to the Slieve Russell is extremely well done. But I would appeal to people to be careful on it because there are electric scooters there too.
"I would appeal to people, for God's sake, to be careful on those scooters because they move fairly fast now. And , they are a dangerous tool if they are not used properly. Anybody won bicycles and scooters need to be careful on the footpath because there are roads leading onto the footpath, so care is advised," said the Councillor.
