A funding campaign for the erection of a statue in honour of Cavan GAA legend, John Joe O'Reilly has reached its halfway point.
Councillor John Paul Feeley who is chairperson of the John Joe O'Reilly Memorial Committee says he hopes works will be finalised and unveiled in September.
The Killeshandra native is the only man to lead a team to All-Ireland glory outside of Ireland, having captained the Breffni men to victory against Kerry in the iconic 1947 All-Ireland senior football championship final in New York.
Described as Cavan's most "famous sports person," Cllr Feeley says the committee have been "astounded" by the generosity and enthusiasm of people who have donated across the country and abroad.
The statue is due to be erected just off the Market Square in Cavan Town.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show earlier today, Cllr Feeley said that there are "many ways" in which people can get involved and donate.
