€632,000 worth of funding has been announced today in support of sports clubs in communities across Monaghan and Cavan. The funding was announced today by Minister for Rural and Community Development and local TD, Heather Humphreys at Cremartin GFC in Monaghan, which has received a €50,000 investment to improve their grounds.
The investment, under the CLÁR Programme will see Monaghan receive a total funding allocation of €396,000, while Cavan will receive over €235,000. Speaking to Northern Sound from Cremartin today, Declan Flanagan, Chairman of Monaghan County Board described the news as "fantastic"
He added that today's announcement is a great day for the GAA and local communities. "The GAA is a very big part of my life, and a very big part of the community in Monaghan," Mr Flanagan told Northern Sound, "Monaghan being a small county, the community is actually the GAA at the moment, the GAA clubs seem to be the hub of every community right across the county.
"As you can see, our facilities here they've been improved to a very good standard over the last number of years and government funding has been a very big help to us," he added.
