Cavan has been awarded €336,913 while Monaghan receives €304,736 under the latest round of Local Improvements Scheme (LIS). LIS was reintroduced in 2017 and since then over €100m has been provided for works on over 3,700 roads.
This week's funding announcement brings the total allocation nationally to just over €112m. Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fail TD, Deputy Brendan Smith, says funding will enable the repair of the local lane network throughout both counties. He added how important this was for rural communities.
Meanwhile, local authorities are responsible for identifying and prioritising roads for improvement works under the scheme, in consultation with residents and landowners. The funding provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development will be complemented by a local financial contribution from landowners and householders, as well as local authority resources.
