A Monaghan Senator has praised the community effort of locals who successful achieved a pedestrian crossing in Threemilehouse. According to Fianna Fail's Robbie Gallagher, the community in Threemilehouse worked together to bring about important traffic solutions for the village. Concerns about the amount of traffic passing through the village and concerns about safety for residents and particularly pedestrians brought together community representatives Audrey Harraghey and Christopher Rice of St. Mary's N.S., Ciaran and Marie Mc Entee who run the local shop and Siobhan Keenan of Threemilehouse Community Playgroup and Afterschool.
Working together with the council engineer, Matthew Lambe and assisted by Senator Robbie Gallagher, a proposal for a pedestrian crossing was put forward to the Department of Transport for funding which has now been successful. Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator Gallagher confirmed that €30,000 has been allocated under Safety Improvement Works as part of Monaghan's €18million plus allocation in the investment programme announced last week by Minister for Transport, Darragh O'Brien TD, of €713 million for road and safety improvements for regional and local roads in 2025.
