A number of GAA clubs across Cavan and Monaghan have received funding from Healthy Ireland for the 'GAA Walking Tracks initiative'. One of the key elements of this particular initiative is to encourage clubs to make their facilities available to non-playing members.
Under the funding initiative Corlough GAA will receive €10,000, Gowna/LGFA - €15,000, Killeevan Sarsfields GAA - €25,000 and Latton O'Rahilly GAA - €15,000.
Fianna Fail TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Deputy Brendan Smith "welcomed" the allocation of funding. Speaking to Northern Sound, he said; "Walking tracks are a great asset to communities, and particularly to rural communities, where there are less well-lit walking routes than in urban areas. The volunteers in all our Clubs do excellent work in providing recreational and sporting facilities right throughout Cavan and Monaghan and the GAA play a very important role in the life of every parish."
