Works on the new Primary Care Centre in Monaghan are underway and it's hoped construction will be completed in 16 months.
The long-awaited project has been dogged by delays since it was first announced over ten years ago but local Senator Robbie Gallagher says he's hopeful the works will progress quickly, despite Covid-19.
Planning permission was granted last year for a new multi-million euro centre, which will involve the major refurbishment of the old Blackwater House unit at the Saint Davnet's campus in Rooskey.
Robbie Gallagher added that he's received confirmation that some local GPs have already signed up to the service.
The new centre will have space for two GP practices, a Dental Treatment Facility, and HSE Treatment and Therapy facilities.
