Frustrations were expressed at this week's meeting of the Monaghan Joint Policing Committee over delays in securing CCTV in Monaghan Town. Cllr Brian McKenna told the Wider View that he contacted Monaghan's Municipal District Co-ordinator prior to Tuesday's meeting about the matter and was told there was nothing back from the Garda Commissioner's office.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr McKenna says his frustrations are evident because the effort has faced one obstacle after another since it was first mooted in 2018.
Cllr McKenna added that he was "concerned" as to why it has taken five years to get a project of such significance to this stage. "All the resources are just sitting there waiting for the project to go ahead and there's a demand for it, especially when it comes to identifying culprits in relation to assaults," explained Cllr McKenna. "It's a little frustrating I have to say when you're trying to push something over the finish line and there's nothing but obstacles put in our way all the time.
"We have been waiting three months from our last meeting on this and we still haven’t received approval for the scheme, however I am hopeful we will get the go ahead by the middle of March."
