Lessons need to be learned surrounding the lack of communication in relation to water disruptions.
That's the view of Cavan County Councillor, Brendan Fay following Belturbet being left without water over the past 24 hours
The local councillor who is also a publican in the town says the people of Belturbet should have been properly notified before the weekend and that great thought should be given to vulnerable people in the community. Mr Fay highlighted that he fully appreciates that essential maintenance and upgrading work has to be carried out but households and businesses need to be advised of such outages well in advance of the proposed works.
The Independent Councillor also said he wanted to commend Cavan County Council workers on the ground that worked through the night to ensure a return to water supply in the area. He says he has raised the issue directly with Irish Water to highlight his frustration with the way that water disruptions are notified to residents and business owners.
Cllr Aine Smith said that residents in Belturbet have been in contact with her regarding their concerns about the lack of notification about disruptions to the water supply on Sunday 12th and Monday 13th of May. Cllr Smith added that the people in Belturbet should have been properly notified before the weekend that there would be disruptions to the supply. In future Irish Water should ensure that all households and businesses are aware in good time of proposed maintenance works and possible disruptions to supply. My concerns in relation to this issue have been conveyed directly to Irish Water" stated Cllr Áine Smith.
