Gerry Murphy urged motorists to remain vigilant during the cold snap.

Overnight temperatures in Ballyhaise reached as low as minus 5.7 degrees according to Met Éireann forecaster and Magheracloone man Gerry Murphy. A status orange low temperature and ice warning for 25 counties including Cavan and Monaghan will start at 6pm tonight. According to Gerry Murphy, that warning will run until 11am tomorrow morning while there's also a national status yellow low temperature alert in place until tomorrow night.

Over much of the Northern Sound region temperatures remain well below zero creating widespread ice and patches of fog in places. Met Éireann's Gerry Murphy says this will continue throughout the day, and in many places temperatures will not reach above freezing at all which people must be aware of. Speaking to Northern Sound, he urged motorists to remain vigilant during the cold snap.
