A new digital Literacy project has been unveiled by Monaghan County Library.
The TechKnow digital Literacy project has come about as a result of the needs identified in the Adult Literacy For Life strategy.
The strategy states that 47% of adults lack basic digital skills and that 'the most marginalised in society have suffered the most from a move to an almost wholly online digital world'
Monaghan County Libraries in conjunction with Cavan Monaghan Education and training board are hosting weekly 1 to 1 Digital skills clinics in Libraries across County Monaghan. Karen McCague, the Executive Librarian at Monaghan County Libraries says there is people living in the region that are missing out through the lack of digital skills.
The TechKnow programme will also expand on basic digital literacy skills to ensure that citizens can fully participate in society and engage with online services provided by the government, Revenue, Dept. Social Welfare, Employment services etc. By enhancing digital skills we will also empower people to participate further and take full advantage of all that the digital world can offer such as managing finances, saving money on utility bills, using price comparison online etc.
