Free parking initiatives in Cavan and Monaghan are back for Christmas. In Monaghan, all this week, throughout Christmas and up to Tuesday the 2nd of January shoppers can park for free in the town from 12 noon every day. In Cavan, off-street parking, including for the multi-storey car park is free but, according to Cavan County Council normal charges will apply for all on-street parking. The council have also extended the number of free car parking spaces by providing an overflow car park to the rear of the Cathedral of Saints Patrick and Felim at Farnham Street - just a five minute walk from the town centre.
Entry and exit to this car park will be via a one way system with the entrance on the south or Court house side and exit on the north or Keadue Lane side. The Council says it is operating free parking "to support local business and encourage people to shop local this Christmas." The public car parks included in the Cavan scheme are those at the courthouse, Townhall Street, Main Street, Bridge Street and Connolly Street.
For further information and a map of the overflow car park see the Cavan County Council website. Normal charges come into effect again for the Cavan multi-storey and car parks from Thursday, 27th December. It is worth noting that in Monaghan, free parking continues right up until Tuesday the 2nd of January also.
