Nine people were arrested for drunk driving in Cavan and Monaghan over the August bank holiday, with another five arrested for drug driving.
The Gardaí have released road safety data in a bid to highlight the need for drivers to behave responsibly.
In one case locally, a car was observed by Gardaí doing donuts at Killyneill Cross in Tyholland on Saturday. After a short pursuit the driver was arrested and later charged.
Another driver tested positive for cocaine in Carrickmacross on Monday and was arrested. It was later found they were disqualified from driving.
Four people died on the country's roads over the August bank holiday weekend.
2,264 instances of speeding were recorded by Gardaí. One motorist was clocked doing three times the speed limit in Kilkenny while another was caught doing over 200 kilometres per hour on the M1 at Drogheda.
160 suspected instances of driving under the influence were also recorded - 55 for suspected drug driving and 105 for drink driving.
