Gardaí in Co. Leitrim, arrested four people last week under Operation Táirge in relation to incidents of theft in Cavan Town.
Operation Táirge is our national initiative aimed at combatting organised retail crime. On Tuesday Gardai received a call about an attempted theft that had occurred in a local retail unit.
As part of their response, they stopped and searched a van in Dromod. The four people travelling in the van were arrested and a large amount of stolen property was recovered. It's believed that this organised retail crime gang set off from Dublin and that the recovered property had been stolen earlier that day from various retail outlets in Cavan town.
The two men and two women ranging in age from 23 to 33 years were interviewed by Gardaí in Carrick on Shannon, Ballymote and Sligo Garda Stations. All four appeared before Sligo court and have now been charged and are before the courts.
