A former Monaghan Councillor has been remembered as a “trailblazer”.
The Carrickmacross-Castleblayney MD paid tribute to the late Rosaleen O’Hanlon at a meeting chaired by her son Councillor PJ O’Hanlon.
Rosaleen, or Rose O’Hanlon had served as a Fianna Fail councillor in Monaghan between 1985 and 2004, and was the first female Cathaoirleach of the county council.
She died last Tuesday and was laid to rest on Friday.
At this morning’s MD meeting, Councillor Noel Keelan described her as a “trailblazer” who was “well able to hold her own”.
Colm Carthy added that she is still fondly spoken about after her term as Chair of Monaghan VEC and that she worked not only for south Monaghan but the entire county.
Councillor Aidan Campbell told the meeting that PJ O’Hanlon’s attendance was a tribute to his late mother.
Acting Chief Executive of Monaghan County Council Paul Clifford said she represented the county with distinction and was always warm and courteous, with Councillor Mary Kerr-Conlon also expressing her condolences.
Cathaoirleach of the MD Councillor PJ O’Hanlon thanked the other members for their kind words of support and said that being present at the meeting is what his mother would have wanted.
