A former pupil of Inver College, Carrickmacross is among this year's recipients of a Fullbright Irish Award. Dr Cian O'Connor is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Tissue Engineering Research Group based at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).
As a recipient of a Fullbright scholarship, Cian will now work and study in Harvard University in the US where he aims to research how to enhance the therapeutic effectiveness of stem cells and further advance spinal cord injury repair applications..
Cian hails from Louth Village but received his secondary education at Inver College before obtaining his Bachelor's degree in Physiology from Trinity College Dublin. The Fullbright Awards programme has been around since 1957 and has a reputation for selecting exceptional candidates from across Ireland to study and work in disciplines ranging from health, science, technology and business to culture, the arts and the Irish language.
