The former Bank of Ireland building in Cootehill is to become a new community facility for the town.
The bank was purchased by Cavan County Council in 2022. Part 8 Planning was approved for the change of use of the former Bank of Ireland building at a meeting of Bailieborough /Cootehill MD yesterday.
Approval of the project was proposed by Cllr Sarah O'Reilly and Seconded by Cllr Carmel Brady. The facility will have changing places to be used by the public, a Community area, a Tourism Exhibition Area, Training, Counselling and board rooms and associated ancillary spaces.
It is also proposed to provide a community garden to the rear of the development and a 3 storey extension to the rear of the development to accommodate a passenger lift and convert 2 outbuildings to the rear for both a men's and ladies shed The project is 90% funded by the 2022 Town and Village Renewal Scheme with the remaining 10% match funding contributed by Cavan County Council.
Cllr O'Reilly says this will be a welcome new space on the main street in Cootehill - it's a building that has lay derelict over the last number of years and it is good that it will be a community hub for the people of the Cootehill area.
