A Monaghan councillor has welcomed plans for the redevelopment of the former Lennard Arms Hotel in Clones. The project received a funding boost of almost €5 million today under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund. This project will regenerate two interlinked and strategic sites to develop the heart of the town and improve the tourist offering.
The former Lennard Arms Hotel will house a museum and visitor centre and a new business hub will be built on the derelict site on Fermanagh Street. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Richard Truell said this is an "exciting project," especially at a time when dereliction is a major concern for the area. Cllr Truell said it will be great to see work done to such a historical building in the hope of improving greater tourism offerings in Clones. "This is very exciting", explained Cllr Truell. "Clones has great potential to become a heritage town, there's a lot of history in the town of Clones and I think developing the Lennard Arms Hotel is great for the town and tourism."
