The Courts had previously been told that these offences resulted in more than €143,000 being taken over the eight year period.

Before Judge John Aylmer yesterday afternoon, Mr Drum pleaded guilty to five sample charges - four consisting of taking €1,600 from the cathedral sacristy on unknown dates in September 2009, April 2011, December 2012 and August 2014, and one of taking over €800 from 62 parish collection envelopes in February 2015.

Judge Aylmer remanded David Drum on continuing bail, with sentencing to take place at the next sitting of the Circuit Court in January.
