A former Cavan school principal has been removed from the teaching register.
Finbar Boyle was jailed in 2019 for the theft of €204,000 from St Patrick's National School in Kilnaleck.
Mr Boyle, who's also known as Fionbar Ó Baoill of Ballybofey, Co Donegal was Principal of the Cavan school from 2007 to 2012.
He pleaded guilty to five counts of theft and two counts of forgery in Cavan Circuit Court and was given a two year suspended sentence in 2018, on condition he repaid €25,000 of the money taken.
The Court of Appeal later sentenced him to 15 months in prison.
At the time the Court was told he had used the money for golf trips and weekends away, as well as on clothes and bills.
He had claimed a grant paid by the Department of Social Protection for a school meals programme had been stopped. However, he continued to claim the money from the Department and pocketed it himself.
A disciplinary panel within the Teaching Council met this week where it removed Mr Boyle from the Teaching Register.
He was also banned from teaching for a minimum of 15 years.
