A former Cavan councillor has succeeded in retaining his seat in the Seanad.
Joe O'Reilly secured a new term in the Seanad, surpassing the established quota of 95,751 in the Labour panel.
The Co. Cavan man has been a senator since 2016 and prior to that he was a TD for Cavan and Monaghan from 2011 to 2016.
He was first elected to Cavan County Council in 1985 and was elected in 1999 and 2004 to the Bailieboro local electoral area.
The Cootehill native was also a former teacher and made a bid to become an MEP in 2009.
A total of eight candidates have so far been elected to the Labour panel in the Upper House of the Oireachtas, including sitting senator Robbie Gallagher.
Three seats remain to be filled as counting continues.
