A Cavan representative of a national forestry group believes the ESB have wrongly blamed forestry owners for power outages following Storm Éowyn.
The cost of the damage is still being calculated three weeks on, with millions of cubic metres of timber estimated to be lying on the forest floor. Trees planted near power lines have been blamed for causing the majority of power outages, particularly across West Cavan Derek McCabe is a member of the the Irish Forest Owners group and is from Mountnugent in Co.Cavan.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, he says forestry owners have too many regulatory hoops to jump through when it comes to maintaining trees located near power lines.
