Cuts to the pay of members of the Northern Ireland Assembly have been described as 'tokenism'. MLAs will see their salaries reduced by around a third as part of plans to defer an Assembly election by six weeks.
The new deadlines to form an Executive in Stormont is now the 8th of December, with the potential for a further extension to January 19th if necessary. Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern says MLAs are doing a lot of work, even if the Assembly isn't sitting.
"MLAs are still doing their constituency work. And yes, a lot of the public will say they haven't been meeting properly for months now, so why should they get full pay. I understand that argument but I would rather see a resolution than be worrying about what they get paid," he added.
